about

’TIL THE LIGHT BLOOMS is a collection of songs that were largely written at the beginning of 2023. Each song was written as a singular unit yet when the collection of songs were held together the vision for an album emerged.

There are common and complimentary themes among the album’s lyricism. Most obvious is the theme of life, and the desire to see others and ourselves live in the fullness of life. In fact, each song is like a conversation with a loved one, or with ourselves, urging and ushering each other to greater richer living. Another reoccurring theme is that of light. When life seems it’s darkest, as the morning reminds us, as the love of a friend reminds us, light will bloom.

The music of ‘till the light blooms is mostly joyous and energetic, yet there is sadness and anger and tension too for life involves all these things.

The recordings of each song are honest—real people playing together in real time. Sometimes we hit perfection and sometimes there is imperfection, but as we have said, such is life.

There is a desire for this album that it would resound with hope. Whether you encounter these songs at a live show, or through the recordings. I hope they resonate with you.

Most of the tracks for ‘till the light blooms were recorded live at Big Red studios under the guided engineering of Elliot Crampton. However, “till the light blooms and All I Have, were in part recorded at 45RPM studios in London with Chris McNally.

The musicians who helped make this album a reality are among the finest group of musicians and friends I have had the privilege of working with. Not only was Elliot Crampton overseeing the albums production, he also contributed drums, percussion and electric guitar. James Kemp eloquently provided Bass. The esteemed Fiachra White provided Piano, while the elusive guitar style of Joshua Courtney added to albums character. All backing vocals are the work of Elliot and Dylan Crampton.

In an effort to give ‘till the light bloom's the voice it needed we enlisted the help of Huw Williams to compose string parts, enlivening the tracks to their fullest. The quartet who play these parts were: Cillian O’Breachain and Molly O’Shea (Violins), Anthony Mulholland (Viola) and Aoife Burke (Cello).

All tracks were mixed by Elliot Crampton and mastered by Drew Elliot.

The image for the album was the marvelous work of photographer Tom Scott, from Atom Creates, who took the shot during our London recording session. The album’s artwork was crafted by the ever creative Lucy Kelly from Lucinda Grace Designs.
